ALASKA GUIDE
Required Auto Insurance & Minimum Limits in Alaska
Alaska requires motor-vehicle liability insurance meeting the statutory minimum limits. AS 28.22.101 establishes a minimum of $50,000 for bodily injury or death to one person, $100,000 for bodily injury or death to two or more persons in one accident, and $25,000 for property damage.
- Confirm the actual policy, named insured, covered vehicle and liability limits.
- Distinguish Alaska’s statutory floor from the total insurance potentially available.
- Investigate owner, employer, commercial, umbrella and excess coverage.
- Review current AS 28.22.101 and AS 21.96.020 before publication.
