GEORGIA AUTO INSURANCE GUIDE

Georgia Crash Investigation, Evidence Preservation & Two-Year Limitation

Georgia personal-injury actions are generally subject to a two-year limitation period, but shorter ante-litem deadlines and different periods may apply to public entities, property claims, wrongful death, contract claims or other causes of action.

  • Calendar the general two-year personal-injury period immediately after the crash.
  • Check public-entity ante-litem rules and every claim-specific limitation separately.
  • Preserve vehicles, EDR data, video, photographs, reports, witness information and electronic records before they disappear.
  • Do not treat the general two-year period as a substitute for claim-specific deadline research.

Current-law review: September 16, 2026. Limitation and notice periods depend on the claim and defendant.
