Georgia Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
O.C.G.A. § 33-7-11 governs Georgia uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Policies generally provide statutory UM/UIM protection unless the insured rejects it or affirmatively selects different limits or a reduced-by form as permitted by law.
- Obtain the declarations page and every UM/UIM election or rejection form.
- Georgia’s default framework allows add-on coverage that applies in addition to available liability coverage without duplicating damages.
- An insured may instead elect reduced-by coverage, under which available liability coverage reduces the amount of UM/UIM coverage.
- Review insured status, policy priority, deductibles, settlement and service requirements before resolving the liability claim.
