MISSOURI GUIDE 13

Missouri Borrowed, Non-Owned & Rental Vehicles

Coverage can change when a Missouri vehicle is borrowed, rented, non-owned, or made available through a vehicle-sharing program. Owner, driver, rental, commercial and sharing-program policies may apply in different layers.

  • Obtain the owner’s policy, driver’s policy, rental or sharing agreement, and any separate program coverage.
  • Identify permissive-use, non-owned-auto and business-use provisions.
  • For shared-vehicle arrangements, Missouri’s 2026 law expressly permits a personal motor-vehicle insurer to exclude liability, UM/UIM, MedPay and other coverage for claims arising while the vehicle is made available for sharing, subject to the statute.
  • Do not assume the personal policy follows the vehicle during a sharing period.
