MISSOURI GUIDE 02

Required Auto Insurance & Minimum Limits in Missouri

Missouri requires motor-vehicle liability insurance meeting minimum limits of $25,000 for bodily injury to one person, $50,000 for bodily injury to two or more persons in one accident, and $25,000 for property damage. Missouri also requires uninsured motorist coverage at the statutory bodily-injury minimum, while underinsured motorist coverage is generally contractual rather than mandated by the same statute.

  • Confirm the declarations page, covered vehicle and actual liability limits.
  • Identify mandatory UM coverage and determine whether the policy separately provides UIM coverage.
  • Investigate owner, household, employer, commercial, umbrella and excess coverage where the facts support additional policies.
  • Do not assume statutory minimums represent the total insurance available after a serious crash.
