MISSOURI GUIDE 05
Missouri Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Missouri requires uninsured motorist coverage in motor-vehicle liability policies at not less than the statutory bodily-injury minimum limits. Underinsured motorist coverage, by contrast, depends principally on the policy actually issued and is not mandated in the same manner by RSMo § 379.203.
- Obtain every declarations page and UM/UIM endorsement that may apply.
- Identify each person who qualifies as an insured under the applicable coverage.
- Analyze stacking, offsets, exclusions and policy definitions separately for UM and UIM.
- Do not assume the existence or limits of UIM coverage from the presence of mandatory UM coverage.
