MONTANA GUIDE 04
Who Is an Insured Under Montana Auto Insurance?
Coverage turns first on the policy’s insured definitions. A claimant may qualify as a named insured, resident relative, permissive user, occupant, employee, or other protected person depending on the coverage and policy wording.
Questions to answer
- Who is named on the declarations?
- How does the policy define resident relatives and household members?
- Was the driver using the vehicle with permission?
- Does the particular coverage protect occupants or pedestrians?
- Do employer, commercial, rental, or rideshare policies define insured status differently?
Insured status is coverage-specific. A person who qualifies under liability coverage may not necessarily qualify under every first-party coverage, and vice versa.
