OHIO AUTO INSURANCE GUIDE
Ohio Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Ohio law does not require every motor-vehicle liability policy to include uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. Under Ohio Rev. Code § 3937.18, UM/UIM coverage may be offered on terms permitted by statute, so the existence, limits and scope of coverage must be determined from the policy actually purchased.
- Obtain the declarations page and all UM/UIM endorsements.
- Identify every person who qualifies as an insured under the coverage.
- Review offsets, exclusions, priority, reducing clauses and consent-to-settle provisions.
- Do not assume statutory liability limits imply corresponding UM/UIM protection.
