SOUTH CAROLINA AUTO INSURANCE GUIDE
South Carolina Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
South Carolina requires uninsured-motorist coverage at least at the statutory minimum limits. Underinsured-motorist coverage is optional, but insurers must offer it up to the insured’s liability limits in the manner required by statute.
- Obtain the declarations page, UM/UIM endorsements and all optional-coverage offer forms.
- Distinguish mandatory UM from optional UIM.
- Identify whether the claimant is a Class I or Class II insured because stacking rights differ materially.
- Review settlement, notice and subrogation requirements before releasing an at-fault driver.
