Required Auto Insurance, PIP & Financial Responsibility in Florida
Florida’s ordinary registration-based insurance system is not a conventional 10/20/10 bodily-injury mandate. A registered private vehicle generally must maintain $10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property-damage liability. Bodily-injury financial responsibility is governed separately under Chapter 324 and may become mandatory after specified crashes, judgments, convictions or other triggering events.
- PIP generally provides up to $10,000 in medical and disability benefits, subject to statutory conditions and limitations.
- Property-damage financial responsibility is generally $10,000 per crash.
- Chapter 324 defines ordinary proof of financial responsibility for bodily injury as $10,000 per person and $20,000 per crash, with separate property-damage requirements, when proof is required.
- Do not assume every Florida policy contains bodily-injury liability coverage; verify the declarations page.
