NORTH DAKOTA GUIDE 21
North Dakota Basic No-Fault/PIP, Medical Expenses & Reimbursement
North Dakota requires basic no-fault coverage, commonly described as PIP, with a current minimum benefit of $30,000 per person. Basic no-fault benefits pay qualifying economic loss without regard to fault and can include medical expense and work loss, subject to the statute and policy.
- Identify the applicable basic no-fault policy, insured status and benefit limit.
- Track medical expenses, wage loss and other covered economic losses with a complete payment ledger.
- Coordinate no-fault benefits with health insurance, workforce benefits and other available payment sources where applicable.
- Preserve explanations of benefits, provider balances, reimbursement demands and subrogation notices before settlement.
- Distinguish first-party no-fault benefits from third-party tort damages and avoid double recovery for the same loss.
