OKLAHOMA AUTO INSURANCE GUIDE
Oklahoma Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Oklahoma insurers must offer uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. The coverage is not mandatory for the insured, but rejection must be in writing. Oklahoma Insurance Department guidance identifies minimum UM/UIM limits of $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident, with higher limits available up to policy limits under insurer offerings.
- Obtain the declarations page, UM/UIM endorsement and any signed rejection.
- Identify the named insured, resident relatives and occupants who may qualify for protection.
- UM/UIM principally addresses bodily injury; ordinary vehicle damage generally requires collision or another applicable property coverage.
- Review exclusions and offsets under Oklahoma’s strong statutory UM public policy before accepting an insurer’s coverage limitation.
