Puerto Rico ACAA Compulsory Accident Benefits, Medical Care & Two-Year Service Period

Puerto Rico’s Automobile Accident Compensation Administration (ACAA) provides medical-hospital services and statutory compensation to people injured in motor-vehicle accidents, including drivers, passengers and pedestrians, subject to eligibility and filing rules.

ACAA states that covered medical and rehabilitation services are generally available for two years from the date of the accident, with possible extensions in severe cases through medical review.
Current ACAA guidance instructs injured persons to notify police promptly and generally file an ACAA claim within 15 calendar days after the accident.
ACAA benefits are separate from SRO property-damage coverage and should also be coordinated with workers’ compensation when the accident occurs in the course of employment.
