WISCONSIN GUIDE 05
Wisconsin Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Wisconsin requires uninsured motorist coverage of at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. Underinsured motorist coverage is handled differently: the insurer must give notice that UIM is available, and if the insured accepts it, the coverage must be written at limits of at least $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident.
- Obtain the declarations page and all UM/UIM endorsements.
- Identify who qualifies as an insured under each potentially applicable policy.
- Determine whether UIM coverage was accepted or rejected after statutory notice.
- Review offsets, priority and anti-stacking provisions under Wis. Stat. § 632.32.
