TEXAS AUTO INSURANCE GUIDE

Texas UM/UIM Stacking, Multiple Policies & Multi-Vehicle Policies

Texas stacking analysis distinguishes between multiple vehicles insured under one policy and separate applicable policies. UM/UIM limits within a single multi-vehicle policy are not automatically multiplied merely because several vehicles are insured, while separate applicable policies may require a different analysis up to actual damages and each policy’s limit.

  • Identify every potentially applicable UM/UIM policy and vehicle.
  • Distinguish a single multi-vehicle policy from separate policies.
  • Review anti-stacking, other-insurance and limit-of-liability provisions.
  • Apply current Texas appellate authority to each policy separately.
