WISCONSIN GUIDE 21

Wisconsin MedPay, Hospital Liens & Reimbursement

Wisconsin motor-vehicle policies must offer medical-payments coverage of at least $1,000 per person, but a named insured may reject MedPay. When MedPay is included, it may be written as excess over other reimbursement sources and the insurer may retain statutory subrogation rights.

  • Confirm whether MedPay was included or rejected and identify the applicable limit.
  • Track payments by auto insurers, health plans and medical providers with a complete ledger.
  • Preserve hospital-lien, reimbursement and subrogation notices before settlement.
  • Review § 632.32 together with applicable lien and reimbursement statutes and plan documents.
