Alaska Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Alaska law requires insurers to offer uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, subject to statutory selection and rejection rules. Coverage analysis should identify insured status, limits, offsets, exclusions, settlement effects and subrogation rights.
- Obtain declarations, endorsements and UM/UIM selection or rejection documents.
- Identify every policy under which the injured person may qualify as an insured.
- Review liability settlements and subrogation implications before release.
- Apply current AS 21.96.020 and controlling Alaska authority.
