NEBRASKA GUIDE 05

Nebraska Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Nebraska requires uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage for bodily injury on covered motor-vehicle liability policies. Neb. Rev. Stat. § 44-6408 requires minimum limits of $25,000 for injury or death to one person and $50,000 for injury or death to two or more persons in one accident for both UM and UIM coverage.

  • Obtain the declarations page and every UM/UIM endorsement for all potentially applicable policies.
  • Identify who qualifies as an insured under each policy before assuming coverage follows only the occupied vehicle.
  • Review offsets, exclusions, priority, subrogation and settlement provisions before releasing a liability claim.
  • Evaluate higher limits, household policies, employer policies and umbrella or excess coverage where applicable.
