STATE LAW – NEVADA LIBRARY – GUIDE 03

Finding Every Insurance Policy After a Nevada Crash

A serious Nevada crash can involve more than the liability policy shown at the scene. Coverage investigation should identify every policy and layer that may respond.

  • Driver and vehicle-owner liability policies.
  • Household, employer, commercial, umbrella and excess coverage.
  • Rental, non-owned and rideshare coverage.
  • UM/UIM, MedPay and other first-party benefits.

Coverage discovery should identify every applicable layer

Investigate the driver, vehicle owner, household policies, employer or commercial coverage, rental or rideshare coverage, umbrella/excess insurance, MedPay, and UM/UIM. The insurance card at the scene may identify only one policy.

Policy documents and selection forms matter

Obtain declarations, endorsements, UM/UIM and MedPay selection/rejection forms, and written coverage positions. Nevada filing rules require insurers to maintain approved offer forms for UM/UIM and medical-payments coverage.
