Guam Auto Insurance & Crash Law

VictimsGuide’s Guam library organizes the rules that matter after a motor-vehicle crash: mandatory liability insurance, permissive and non-owned vehicle coverage, UM/UIM, claims handling, transportation-network coverage, government claims, comparative negligence, damages, settlement, liens, subrogation and controlling legal authority.

Guam rules to identify early

  • Mandatory insurance: vehicles operated in Guam generally must carry at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, plus $20,000 for property damage.
  • Comparative negligence: Guam follows modified comparative negligence; recovery is barred when claimant negligence is equal to or greater than the negligence of the person against whom recovery is sought.
  • Government claims: Guam’s Government Claims Act generally requires presentation of a claim within 18 months after the claim arises before suit may proceed.
  • Transportation-network coverage: app-based and for-hire operations require separate statutory and policy analysis rather than ordinary personal-auto assumptions.

Preserve the complete policy, proof of insurance, crash report, photographs, video and electronic evidence, and investigate employer, commercial, rental, umbrella and excess coverage before executing a release.
