2026 minimum liability limits

HRS § 431:10C-301 now requires at least $40,000 bodily-injury liability per person, $80,000 per accident, and $20,000 property-damage liability for policies effective on or after January 1, 2026. The Hawaii Insurance Division confirms that these 40/80/20 limits replaced the former 20/40/10 minimums for new and renewal policies effective on or after that date.

Hawaii remains a no-fault/PIP state

The required motor vehicle policy also incorporates PIP coverage under HRS chapter 431:10C. The statutory maximum basic PIP benefit is $10,000 per person for accidental harm, subject to the statute’s eligibility and coverage rules.
