KANSAS GUIDE 21
Kansas PIP, Medical Expenses, Liens & Reimbursement
Kansas requires personal injury protection benefits under the Kansas Automobile Injury Reparations Act. Statutory definitions include medical benefits of at least $4,500 per person, disability benefits of at least $900 per month for up to one year, funeral benefits up to $2,000, and other defined benefits subject to the Act and policy.
- Identify the correct PIP insurer and priority source.
- Track medical expense, wage/disability loss and other claimed benefits with a complete ledger.
- Preserve applications, bills, explanations of benefits, denials, liens and reimbursement notices.
- Coordinate PIP with tort damages and UM/UIM without duplicating the same loss.
- Review statutory exclusions, time limits and reimbursement/subrogation provisions before settlement.
