VERMONT AUTO INSURANCE GUIDE
Vermont Pre-Suit Insurance Information, Policy Limits & Coverage Investigation
Vermont law requires an insurer that may be liable to satisfy part or all of a motor-vehicle claim to disclose specified liability-insurance information within 30 days after receiving a qualifying written request from a person reasonably claiming a right to recover damages. The disclosure includes the names of the insurer and insured and the applicable liability limits.
- Make the request in writing and identify the crash and claimed bodily injury, death or property damage.
- Ask separately about umbrella, excess, commercial and employer policies that may not be captured by the primary auto policy.
- Preserve the insurer’s response and compare it against declarations, endorsements and other coverage evidence.
