Scope of employment controls employer liability

Oregon respondeat-superior liability generally turns on whether the employee’s conduct occurred substantially within authorized time and space, was of the kind the employee was hired to perform, and was motivated at least in part by a purpose to serve the employer.

That tort analysis is separate from personal auto, commercial auto, hired and non-owned auto, fleet, umbrella, and excess coverage.
