Texas Auto Insurance & Crash Law
VictimsGuide’s Texas library organizes the rules that matter after a motor-vehicle crash: compulsory liability insurance, UM/UIM, PIP, proportionate responsibility, claims handling, employer and commercial coverage, government claims, damages, liens, settlement and case authority.
Texas rules to identify early
- Minimum liability: Texas requires at least 30/60/25 liability coverage.
- PIP: Texas auto policies include personal injury protection unless the coverage is rejected in writing.
- UM/UIM: insurers must offer uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage; rejection must be in writing.
- Proportionate responsibility: a claimant may not recover if the claimant’s responsibility exceeds 50%; otherwise damages are reduced by the assigned percentage.
- Commercial and government claims: employer, trucking, rideshare and public-entity crashes require separate coverage, statutory and procedural analysis.
